Volunteer Opportunities
All volunteer positions are as needed and flexible except where indicated in the description
Museum Positions
Museum Docents – Needed for the 2nd Sunday of the month, March – December, from 1:00 – 3:30 PM. Are you interested in educating guests on the history of The Hunt House? In this position you will learn Hunt House and period specific information to speak to and share with visitors. You will be provided a training packet to assist and will have an opportunity to shadow other Docent’s in action.
Museum Committee – As a member of the Museum Committee you will help with set up of displays throughout the season, help to maintain a safe & clean museum as well as assist with logging and caring for newly acquired artifacts.
Finance Committee – For this committee we are looking for individuals willing to assist in leading planned giving and other budget and finance related planning or fundraising activities.
Building Committee – As a member of this committee you will assist the team in keeping the building and grounds at Hunts Mills properly maintained including overseeing upgrades and contractor work as needed.
Attorney – For this we are looking for a licensed attorney willing to provide provide legal advice as needed for items such as providing counsel for updating bylaws and other legal documents or agreements.
Technology Positions
Email Campaigns – as a member of the Technology Committee you will be responsible for ensuring our members are always in the know for upcoming events, notifications of weather closures or other important or time sensitive information that needs to be distributed.
Marketing & Publicity Positions
Marketing Committee – We are looking for individuals who know or are interested in marketing. As a volunteer in this space you will assist in developing and implementing a plan to engage new members, sponsors and local organizations such as libraries and senior centers, with the EP Historical Society.
Programming – Our programming position focuses specifically on member meetings. In this position, you will ensure we have dates set as well as speakers, topics, and venue secured for the monthly membership meeting.
Education Positions
School Education Programs Committee – Are you a retired teacher who has interest in continuing their work with children? As a volunteer for the EP Historical Society you can! This opportunity consists of helping our committee with outreach to local schools, assisting in continued development of historically factual and educational curriculum as well as aid as a guide on school field trips to the Hunt House.
Community Positions
Community Events Committee – Being part of this committee means you will be involved in planning the logistics of special events, such as Watchemoket Square Day, and any special events planned during our museum open house times.
Marker Program – As a member of this committee you can assist in deed research and identifying architectural details and historical significant of homes and buildings in East Providence who apply for a historical marker.
Gazette Writers – Contribute to and write articles for our monthly newsletter, The Gazette. Thorough research may be needed and is the responsibility of the volunteer to conduct, this includes gaining permission from people or organizations to use information, quotes, etc. Article submission does have a deadline and they must be written and submitted to the Editor by that date.
Grant Writers – We are looking for a volunteer with experience with writing and reporting grants as well as working with budgets and project management. This will be a position that will initially shadow a member of our board in order to learn about what we do and the types of grants we apply for, but eventually will be taken over and managed by the person who is accepted for this position.
